Lately I have been thinking a lot about the importance of gratitude. I have been working very hard to keep the negativity out of my life – including news, people, events, and even my own thoughts. Sometimes this can be extremely challenging. What I have found is that these negative things go away immediately the moment I become thankful. No matter what the situation or event – gratitude puts my heart and mind in a better place.
So I have this idea. For the next thirty days, I will pick something to be thankful for each day. The challenge is to consciously be grateful all day, every day, in a variety ways.
Here is my plan:
1. Write it down.
I will use my blog to write about what it is and why I am thankful for it. If it is a person I am thankful for, I will write them a note or a card or I will call them to tell them how special they are. Maybe even do something for them.
2. Pray or meditate.
During my morning walks I will meditate on it and repeat to myself how thankful I am. During the day I will remind myself through a brief meditation.
3. Talk about it.
Share my gratitude with family, friends, colleagues, or even complete strangers (if appropriate). Spread the joy however I can.
I begin my gratitude journey tomorrow. Wish me luck!
