In the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech yesterday, I woke up this morning clearly reminded about how fortunate I am to have a healthy and happy family, wonderful friendships, a meaningful job, caring colleagues, and a diverse and close-knit community.
My heart is saddened by the fact that people are suffering so much that they are capable of such horrible things, yet I refuse to let this break my spirit or my faith that there are more good-spirited and kind-hearted people in the world than not. The difficult thing to conceive is what would drive somebody to do such a thing. It is just so very sad.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by this terrible event. It is my wish that we let this tragedy be a reminder of our responsibility to consciously take time to make a positive difference each day. It doesn’t matter how small, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming – any simple gesture of kindness, gratitude, compassion, or generosity will do.
