Swing Scarcity

Daryn (who has renamed herself Bolivia) is learning about economics in 2nd grade. She told me that she understands the word “scarcity”. I asked her what it meant, and she told me that the other day while at the playground, she experienced a scarcity problem with the swingset. Apparently there were 7 kids on the playground, 4 were on the only swings available, and one kid was waiting her turn. She said that this was a scarcity problem.

I agreed that this was a result of swing scarcity.

If life could be that simple! If only scarcity problems were limited to playgrounds and availabity of swings or slides or other equipment.

 I love children.
