  1. I don’t watch much TV – in particular major networks. Well – it’s mainly crime dramas and reality shows that make me cringe.
  2. If possible, I don’t watch or the news – it’s depressing. I figure that I am online so much and will find out what I need to know eventually anyway.
  3. I live in the DC area and can’t stand politics. ‘nuf said.
  4. No, I do not like the movie “Dirty Dancing” – and never have.
  5. I don’t wear business suits (and never have)
  6. Baseball, Football, Basketball – you can have ‘em. Give me soccer or xtreme sports any day.
  7. I didn’t have an average childhood. Born in Brooklyn but yanked out of the New York culture at an early age. I ended up living in the Caribbean until my 2nd year of college.
  8. I mostly listen to reggae music, underground hip-hop, and much of what my 16 year old listens to that makes me like to scream along. And no, I do not like most current R&B and I can’t stand DMB.
  9.  I aim to live in a small 1930′s bungalow style house with a small cottage garden so I can paint it crazy colors and drink iced tea with mint (perhaps with some special additives) and grow tomatoes in my backyard.
  10. I don’t think that school should ever get in the way of education
  11. Networking events are difficult for me – at best.
  12. I want to get a tattoo written in Elvish on my wrist
  13. My dream vacation consists of hiking the highlands of Scotland, visiting Middle-Earth in New Zealand, and taking a cruise to Alaska

This is a short list, mind you. But I think it begins to paint a clear picture.

As I continue the journey to live my best life – I decided that it is really important to get clear on what this means to me. After reviewing this list several times, I am feeling pretty good about it – for now.

 Living my best life – what it means to me:

  1. Living well within my means
  2. Having more than enough income/wealth to carry me through life
  3. Finding meaningful and inspired work that makes my heart sing
  4. Having deep, meaningful relationships
  5. Living in an environment that feeds my soul
  6. Being strong, healthy and fit
  7. Exploring new places, and experiencing new things
  8. Being a lifelong learner
  9. Regularly spend time on my creative outlets
  10. Being thankful for everything, everyday

Inspired Leadership

In response to posting Barack Obama’s “Yes We Can” video, my cousin Michael said this,

“It is a moving video, absolutely. Don’t let anyone tell you that supporting Obama is based merely on emotion or passion though (even though his followers are passionate) or that he doesn’t provide detail on his positions. He provides plenty of detail on his website, easy to find and check.”

His comment really made me think – and it occurred to me that it has been so long since we have had positive and inspired leadership in this country. Why not vote for a candidate because he inspires us? or because he instills within us a sense of hope and possibility?

In my mind – these are clear reasons why I want him to win. I believe an inspired America can progress in ways an un-inspired one cannot.

I have been reading back through some of my blog posts and realize how extremely random this blog is. I think I have something that a coworker calls “IDD” – Information Deficit Disorder. This blog is proof of my inability to focus on any one thing for long. I read blogs by other folks that have a theme or topic. When I try to figure out what that would be for me, I am at a total loss. What is wrong with me?

With heated discussions all around me regarding the Presidential primaries I have had to shut out all the noise and do some serious thinking about who I will vote for and why.

If I look at the big picture, things come clear -

  • I will vote for the candidate who’s campaign is based on hope, rather than fear
  • I will vote for the candidate who stands for positive forward movement, as opposed to against the possibilities of bad things happening
  • I will vote for the candidate who can help us build a better global relationship
  • Most of all, I will vote from my heart.

Who knows what each day will bring?

Should we use our time and try to figure it out, or to worry about what will happen? Should we put all of our energy into trying to force or dictate the direction that we will take? If we do this will we forget about now?

Who knows the answer?

With each new day we are all afforded the opportunity to improve ourselves, our lives – and that of those around us. We can re-invent ourselves every day, what we do, how we live, the difference we make. Every day we can do something different, learn something new, make someone else (and ultimately ourselves) happy. How cool is that?

If we don’t get it right one day, we can try something else the next. If we don’t like how we felt or something we did, we can learn from it and improve.

Today, I am both thankful and excited about the possibilities.
