Sort of dark – but intriguing nonetheless…

She’s a Rebel

Thanks to my 9-year-old daughter, I can’t get this song out of my head. Green Day – Give me Novacaine / She’s a Rebel. Is it even appropriate for a 9 year old to listen to a song entitled “Give me Novacaine?” I guess it’s better than when she liked “Call me when you’re sober”

Bill O’Reilly: You’ve got to be kidding

I just watched a video of pundit Bill O’Reilly responding to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s latest TV spot. You have to see what Mr. O’Reilly has to say about Viagra and birth control.

He’s got to be kidding – what a moron!

If it really is a dollars and cents issue – doesn’t it make sense to spend pennies now instead of thousands later? This is downright disrespectful, and here I thought we had come so far with womens rights issues.

UGGH! By the way Mr. O’Reilly – birth control is a matter of healthcare.

After you watch the video, be sure to send them a note about why birth control is basic health care!

My 9 year old and the 9:30 club

The 9:30 club in DC holds a special place in my heart. Call me sentimental, but I remember the 1st time I went there when  I was 20 years old – and was going to see a new group called Public Enemy. This was before they were well-known and their audience was small and somewhat alternative. Needless to say, it was a night to remember…

Fast forward a very long time (no need to mention actual years here). My nine year old found out that one of her favorite bands, Good Charlotte, was playing at the 9:30 club and was begging me to take her. Her suggested alternative was a Panic at the Disco concert somewhere in the midwest.  What do I do with a 9 year old that wants to go to the 9:30 club? Aren’t most 9-year olds are listening to Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers? I mentioned that and she didn’t talk to me for the rest of the evening.

where has fluffy gone?

I don’t usually post this kind of stuff. I guess just one time is ok.

13 things about me

  1. I don’t watch much TV – in particular major networks. Well – it’s mainly crime dramas and reality shows that make me cringe.
  2. If possible, I don’t watch or the news – it’s depressing. I figure that I am online so much and will find out what I need to know eventually anyway.
  3. I live in the DC area and can’t stand politics. ‘nuf said.
  4. No, I do not like the movie “Dirty Dancing” – and never have.
  5. I don’t wear business suits (and never have)
  6. Baseball, Football, Basketball – you can have ‘em. Give me soccer or xtreme sports any day.
  7. I didn’t have an average childhood. Born in Brooklyn but yanked out of the New York culture at an early age. I ended up living in the Caribbean until my 2nd year of college.
  8. I mostly listen to reggae music, underground hip-hop, and much of what my 16 year old listens to that makes me like to scream along. And no, I do not like most current R&B and I can’t stand DMB.
  9.  I aim to live in a small 1930′s bungalow style house with a small cottage garden so I can paint it crazy colors and drink iced tea with mint (perhaps with some special additives) and grow tomatoes in my backyard.
  10. I don’t think that school should ever get in the way of education
  11. Networking events are difficult for me – at best.
  12. I want to get a tattoo written in Elvish on my wrist
  13. My dream vacation consists of hiking the highlands of Scotland, visiting Middle-Earth in New Zealand, and taking a cruise to Alaska

This is a short list, mind you. But I think it begins to paint a clear picture.
