Inspired Leadership

In response to posting Barack Obama’s “Yes We Can” video, my cousin Michael said this,

“It is a moving video, absolutely. Don’t let anyone tell you that supporting Obama is based merely on emotion or passion though (even though his followers are passionate) or that he doesn’t provide detail on his positions. He provides plenty of detail on his website, easy to find and check.”

His comment really made me think – and it occurred to me that it has been so long since we have had positive and inspired leadership in this country. Why not vote for a candidate because he inspires us? or because he instills within us a sense of hope and possibility?

In my mind – these are clear reasons why I want him to win. I believe an inspired America can progress in ways an un-inspired one cannot.

I have been reading back through some of my blog posts and realize how extremely random this blog is. I think I have something that a coworker calls “IDD” – Information Deficit Disorder. This blog is proof of my inability to focus on any one thing for long. I read blogs by other folks that have a theme or topic. When I try to figure out what that would be for me, I am at a total loss. What is wrong with me?

Voting and the grumpy man

I voted today – and as usual got that tingly feeling of empowerment as I cast my ballot. God bless America.

 I did encounter a very grumpy man working the voting desk. Not sure why he was so grumpy, the place was not crowded as it was fairly early in the morning. He yelled at me for getting in the wrong line, then snatched my voter registration card out of my hand. I didn’t understand when he asked me which primary I was voting in (in Virginia you can vote in either primary regardless of what party you are registered with) and he got even more annoyed. He handed my my card back and I paused before taking it, made eye contact with him and wished him a most excellent day. I think I heard crickets. Oh well, at least I tried.

 Today I am thankful that I am an American and that I have the right to vote.

With heated discussions all around me regarding the Presidential primaries I have had to shut out all the noise and do some serious thinking about who I will vote for and why.

If I look at the big picture, things come clear -

  • I will vote for the candidate who’s campaign is based on hope, rather than fear
  • I will vote for the candidate who stands for positive forward movement, as opposed to against the possibilities of bad things happening
  • I will vote for the candidate who can help us build a better global relationship
  • Most of all, I will vote from my heart.
