The Path to fitness

Is a bumpy one. yesterday I did nothing, aside from walking the dog for 10 minutes. I just couldn’t bring myself to exert the energy needed for a real workout. So what did I do? I drank wine.

I managed to wake up at 4 this morning and make it in to the office by 5. I did a 30 minute workout with some extra cardio (for some reason I actually wanted to do this).

I did the following workout while blasting David’s skater-boy music as loud as possible:

 Treadmill:

  • 3 minute wog
  • 1 minute run at 6 mph
  • 30 sec rest – 3.8 mph
  • 2 minute run at 6 mph
  • 30 sec rest – 3.8 mph
  • 1 minute run at 6 mph
  • 30 sec rest – 3.8 mph
  • 3 minute run at 6 mph
  • 1 minute walk – 3.5 mph

Strength Workout – I did 3 rounds of this in 12 minutes

  • Bench push-ups – 10
  • Thrusters with 15 lb first round, then 10 lb for all other rounds – 20
  • Dead lifts with 20lb dbs – 20
  • Sumo lift with 12lb dbs – 20
  • air squats - 20

Ended with:

  • Side Crunches – 3 rounds of 10 on each side
  • Lower ab leg lifts – 20
  • Stretch and cool down

Now I am eating GoLean oatmeal and am ready to begin my day!

Kicking my own butt

I had a very active day today. Started with my 45 minute brisk walk with Jasper. Then I did 20 minutes of Yoga. After that we went to the pumpkin patch with the kids and walked around for 3 hours. When I got home, I did the workout that Jen sent me.  On paper, this workout looked like it would be relatively simple.

How about NO.

I just finished and my entire body is shaking – and my hair is soaked. The dog was even worried about me. 3/4 of the way through I felt sick – but I had to keep on keepin on.

Treadmill:

  • 1 min warm up 3.5 mph
  • 1 min run with 3.0 incline at 6 mph
  • 30 secs easy
  • repeat for 10 minutes

(ok so I was ready to quit after this)

Main Workout:

  • 20 push-ups: 10 with the left hand on a step-up box then 10 with the right hand on the box. (yes my knees were down)
  • 20 DB swings with the 15lb DB. (alternate 10 on each side with thumb pointing between your legs)
  • 20 Hang cleans with the 15lb DB, then dropped to 10lb for last round
  • 20 Squat kicks with the 15 lb DB in oppsite hand at shoulder.
  • As many rounds in 15 mins as I could (this was 3 rounds for me with little or no rest between sets)

Floor Work:

  • Planks 4 for max hold

Stretch and cool-down

Geekend Update

  • Spent the evening Friday night with my new lavendar heated neck wrap, in my superman pajamas, sipping a glass of pinot noir and listening to the rain while I watched “don’t tell mom the babysitters dead” with the kids. Passed out at about 9.
  • Woke up Saturday morning and organized my Out of the Darkness Walk team page, created a graphic for the left column of this blog that links to it.
  • Spent 1 1/2 hours on Saturday aerobicleaning my room: doing squats while picking things up. Jogged between bedrooms – stopped to do 40 air squates – jogged around the room and put away more stuff – 40 alternating knee lifts.  During the entire time I was blasting David’s skater-boy music as loud as possible. Scared the dog in the process. I am sure I pissed-off the neighbors too. All the time I was cracking myself up – my kids think I have completely lost my mind.
  • Saturday night we went to the Halloween Haunted House and Fun Fair – spent too much money for dollar store prizes. I guess the girls had fun though. It was all fun and games until the middle school and high school kids started showing up later on – then you could feel the social tension mounting. I had to get out – reliving the angst that goes along with that age is not something that is attractive to me.
  • Came home afterwards and made meatballs with pasta for the kids. I ate 2 pieces of my fav cheese from whole foods and 1/2 glass of pinot noir. Then watched the kids play DDR for an hour. Time to go to bed.
  •  Woke up Sunday morning and took a long (45 min) walk with Jasper at 7 am (but it was really 6 according to my body clock). The fall foliage is at its peak and absolutely delightful, I wish it could stay like this always.
  • I made my favorite october breakfast: sliced apples, fresh cranberries, sprinkling of walnuts, cinnamon, oatmeal and just enough apple cider to add moisture. Then bake for 20-30 mins. I add splenda if I still need sweetness. MMMM Good.

I will report back later after our trip to the pumpkin patch, and after I do my bootcamp work out that Jen sent me. Later!

My thankful post this week is about the fact that I don’t know everything. In fact, in the grand scheme of things – I know quite little. The best part about this is that there is so much to learn … Continue reading

Friday Fitness Freakout: Redux

ok, so I complained to Jen that she was way to easy on us this past Wednesday. In retrospect it was probably not a very good idea. Today she was ruthless. The workout was hard. It was 6 am. October

Autumn in Virginia

I love October. Bountiful harvests of crisp apples, leaves strewn on the ground, an abundance of color everywhere, pumpkins, hot cider, halloween – I love it all. I love jeans and boots and sweaters. I love the warmth of the October sun during the day and the mystique of clear, chilly October nights. This is my FAVORITE time of year. I am reminded of how beautiful Virginia is, again.

Today’s workout

As Jen Asked me to, I warmed up with 20 Mt climbers  (yuk) and 40 J. Jacks, 20 Air squats.Rest for 2 minutes. 5 Rounds of:

  • 10 Dumbbell Dead lifts (20lb dumbells)
  • 5 Cleans(use 15lb dumbells)
  • 5 squats (15 lb dumbells; with them up on your shoulders, grip them tight)
  • 5 Thrusters (15lb dumbells)

Then I added 3 rounds of:

  • 10 Bench Push-ups
  • 10 Bench Dips
  • 10 Kettle-bell squats

I ended it all with 2 sets of planks – counted to 15 for each

Random act of fitness

I was at the playground with Daryn and Jasper today. There is a bar that is the perfect height for me to stand and do knee pull-ups on. I did three sets of 10 with about a 10 second rest. Then I did three sets of push ups with my hands on the platform and feet on the ground. The platform is about 6 inches off the ground.

 It is a start.
