working out

I worked out VERY hard last night – to the point where aftwerwards my body was aching, sore and stiff. I did a 50 minute FIRM Cardio Sculpt video – which includes compex lunges, dips, squats with heavy weights, combined with cardio moves in between. Then I did 34 minutes averaging 3.9 mph uphill on the treadmill. It was very hard for me, especially since I am significantly overweight and have not exercised consistently since I hurt my hip in july. I hope I can keep this up.

Afterwards, I streteched and took a hot shower. My body was exhausted by the time I went to bed, and today I am feeling really tired (shouldn’t I feel exhilerated?) but the muscle soreness feels good. Especialy behind my shoulder blade, down my side and my hamstrings.

I just got back from my annual checkup where I told my doctor that in my view, my most serious health concern is my weight. That being true, I need to continue on my quest to improve my overall health and weight is a key factor.

I am still keeping up with my FitDay Journal so please take a look.

Wish me luck.

Today I am grateful for yellow tomatoes, well-worn blue-jeans, the blue-ridge mountains, bookstores, and big Dave for buying me the new special-edition Lord of the Rings DVD’s.

FitDay

Today is the second day in a row where I have exercised for an hour.

I now remember now how good it feels when I work out so hard and my muscles tremble and my eyes are stinging with sweat. WHY then is it so difficult to keep doing this all the time? I guess I will try to capture this feeling and remind myself – one day at a time. I also have to remind myself that it will take time to undo years of not being very kind to my body. This will be hard work, and I may not see results quickly – but I certainly can feel a serious mental/emotional boost.

I am also trying to get better about keeping my journal, so that I can be more aware of what I eat, take credit for my activities, and make sure I am getting the right nutrients and vitamins each day. This is about overall health – so I am trying to make sure I am getting what I need to stay healthy and strong.

I have made my journal public for all to see – so now everyone knows and there is nothing to hide.

Check out how I am doing every day on my FitDay Journal.

Wish me luck.

Until next time!

It’s Grateful Wednesday again. Here is quick list of things I am grateful for today: My friendly neighbor had a healthy baby boy. Both mother and baby are doing fine (working on recovering from the birth experience). The world did … Continue reading

Indifference

“The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.”

- Plato

August 19th

  • The day that my Dad moved from England to America – he was 18
  • The day that I had a plane ticket to go visit my mother, but she died a month earlier
  • The day that Big David and I decided to get married
  • The day the little Dave was born

Coincidence?

Questions, questions that need answering

  1. Is Professor Snape evil? Obviously the most important question of the day.
  2. Is the world really going to end next Tuesday? If so, I guess none of these other questions really matter.
  3. Should I move to Maine or Charlottesville or just stay here? I really need help with this one.
  4. When will the 7th Harry Potter book be released? This is extremely important so that I can put a countdown clock on my blog.
  5. Why does President Bush think that Israel was victorious with the recent war in Lebanon? All that was accomplished is fuel for more hatred. No one wins when hatred runs rampant and innocent lives are lost. What a jerk.

It is Wednesday afternoon, I am exhausted from a long day at work after a long day yesterday and a full night spent in the emergency room with my daughter thinking she had appendicitis. We made it through the night … Continue reading

Charlottesville, Monticello and the Blue Ridge Mountains

Everyone went home this past weekend, and I feel the summer winding down. What a wonderful time we had! Last week we drove to Charlottesville, Virginia to investigate some local historic sites and to drive out to the mountains.

We visited Monticello this past week – and learned much of the innovation, creativity, and steadfast determination of one of America’s founding fathers: Thomas Jefferson. I was so moved by what I learned about him – his determination to broaden … Continue reading
